Generator Packaging and DCA Approval fall under the umbrella of the Florida Manufactured Buildings Program. Started in large part because of Florida’s inclement weather conditions, this program aims to ensure manufactured buildings in the Sunshine state are structurally secure. Some of its main points are outlined below.
The Florida Manufactured Buildings Program:
- Applies to manufactured (modular) buildings and should not be confused with manufactured homes such as mobile residences.
- The program applies to ‘closed construction’ buildings. These buildings are structures whose components cannot be readily inspected where they are installed because that would mean their disassembly.
- Some modular buildings that fall underneath this code include: sheds, kiosks, gazebos, communication buildings, ATMs and ice vending locations.
- DCA approval is not enough – these buildings must also completely comply with Florida Building Code (FBC). Local permitting and inspection may be necessary as well.
- Plan review is not necessary if the building is DCA approved. However, local rules of inspections and permitting still hold true.
- Just because the building is manufactured, that does not mean that it is treated differently under Florida Building Code. The building must be of sound construction and must comply with all requirements.
